We’re pleased to welcome The Town of White City as the newest community to join SK Recycles, Saskatchewan’s new recycling program for household packaging and paper. This transition means changes to what you can recycle and how materials are managed.
How the Program Works
White City will continue to manage collection services, in partnership with SK Recycles to support recycling costs. SK Recycles will be responsible for receiving and managing the materials end of life, working in partnership with businesses and organizations.
Changes to White City’s Recycling Program
With this transition, residents will see some updates to their recycling program.
New items accepted in curbside recycling carts include:
- Frozen Desert Cartons
- Coffee Cups and Lids
- Paper Gift Bags
- Plant Pots and Trays
- Foil Wrap and Containers
Glass is not accepted curbside – instead, please take non-deposit glass bottles and jars to a SARCAN depot for recycling.
Other items accepted at SARCAN depots include:
- Flexible plastics (plastic bags, zipper-lock pouches, crinkly wrappers, woven and net plastic bags, bubble wrap)
- Foam packaging (packaging for appliances and electronics, meat trays, foam containers and cups)
More information on White City’s recycling collection service can be found at whitecity.ca/p/recycling.
About SK Recycles
SK Recycles is Saskatchewan’s new province-wide recycling program for household packaging and paper. The program is funded by businesses that include manufacturers, brand owners and retailers that supply packaging and paper to Saskatchewan residents. SK Recycles works with producers, local governments, First Nations and Métis communities, private companies, other organizations and residents to create a standard province-wide recycling network.
What is EPR?
Extended Producer Responsibility, or EPR, is a policy approach where producers – the businesses that supply packaging and paper to residents – are financially and, in some cases, operationally responsible for those materials throughout their entire life cycle, including their end-of-life management. SK Recycles delivers the program on behalf of these producers.
