Regina Joins SK Recycles – Here’s What You Need to Know!

As of July 1, Regina has joined SK Recycles, Saskatchewan’s new recycling program for household packaging and paper.  This transition means changes to what you can recycle and how materials are managed.

How the Program Works

Regina will continue to manage collection services, in partnership with SK Recycles to support recycling costs. SK Recycles remains responsible for receiving and managing the materials end of life, working in partnership with businesses and organizations.

Changes to Regina’s Recycling Program

Regina residents are reminded of the following changes that occurred in 2025 and are encouraged to continue their strong participation in the program.

New items accepted in curbside recycling carts:

    • Disposable coffee cups
    • Frozen desert cartons
    • Paper gift bags and boxes

Glass is no longer accepted curbside – instead, take non-deposit glass bottles and jars to a SARCAN depot for recycling.

New items accepted at SARCAN depots:

A full list of accepted materials is available on Regina.ca/Recycling and more information on flexible plastics, foam packaging and non-deposit glass bottles and jars that can be recycled at SARCAN depots can be found here.

About SK Recycles

SK Recycles is Saskatchewan’s new province-wide recycling program for household packaging and paper. The program is funded by businesses that include manufacturers, brand owners and retailers that supply packaging and paper to Saskatchewan residents. SK Recycles works with producers, local governments, First Nations and Métis communities, private companies, other organizations and residents to create a standard province-wide recycling network.

What is EPR?

Extended Producer Responsibility, or EPR, is a policy approach where producers – the businesses that supply packaging and paper to residents – are financially and, in some cases, operationally responsible for those materials throughout their entire life cycle, including their end-of-life management. SK Recycles delivers the program on behalf of these producers.
