Saskatoon, SK — December 12, 2025 — SK Recycles is pleased to announce a new partnership with Cosmopolitan Industries (Cosmo) as part of the organization’s growing network of post-collection partners across Saskatchewan. Cosmo will play a key role in the management of recycling materials in Saskatchewan once they are collected, including sorting and preparing them to be sent to facilities for recycling to ultimately be made into new products.
This agreement supports SK Recycles’ work to build a strong, province-wide full extended producer responsibility (EPR) household recycling system. It reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to efficiency, environmental stewardship and meaningful community impact.
A Partnership Built on Inclusion, Community, and Environmental Benefit
For almost 55 years, recycling has been part of Cosmo’s story. While recycling has never been their primary purpose, it has long served as an impactful way to create opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities—opportunities to work, participate, and engage in meaningful activities within the community.
More than 200 people contribute daily to Cosmo’s recycling efforts, reflecting the deep roots and social value of the organization’s work.
“This new partnership with SK Recycles builds on that history and takes us forward,” says Sharlene Duquette, Executive Director of Cosmo Industries. “Recycling is part of who we are, and we are proud to partner in a way that creates both environmental and social benefits for our province. Together, we’re recycling for a stronger, more inclusive future.”
Strengthening Saskatchewan’s
Post-Collection Network
As SK Recycles continues onboarding communities into the new recycling program, organizations like Cosmo will form an essential part of the post-collection network—the system responsible for managing materials after they are picked up at the curb or depot. This work includes sorting materials by type and preparing recyclables for shipment to facilities that turn them into new materials to be used to manufacture new products.
Partnering with Cosmo helps ensure a reliable, Saskatchewan-based approach to recycling that aligns with community values and supports a circular economy.
“Cosmo brings decades of experience, a deep commitment to community, and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality recycling services,” said Sam Baker, Executive Director of SK Recycles. “We are thrilled to welcome Cosmo as one of our post-collection partners.”
Looking Ahead
SK Recycles and Cosmo will work closely over the coming years as more communities transition into the full extended producer responsibility program. This partnership represents an exciting new chapter for the future of recycling in Saskatchewan.
