In order to become a member of SK Recycles, both obligated and voluntary producers must complete and sign a Membership Agreement (MA). The MA outlines the commitments that members and SK Recycles are making to each other and clearly identifies the responsibilities of both parties. By both parties agreeing to the provisions of the Membership Agreement, which provides a clear framework for the partnership, the possibility of disputes down the road is reduced.
A Membership Agreement is required because The Household Packaging and Paper Stewardship Program Regulations, 2023 obligates SK Recycles, on behalf of its members, to provide the residents of SK with residential recycling services. In order to provide those services, SK Recycles operates a full recycling supply chain with services procured from service providers.
When producers sign an MA, they are committing to report their materials and pay fees for the management of those materials. At the same time, SK Recycles commits to fulfilling the Household Packaging and Paper Stewardship Program Plan.
It is important that all producers sign the same Membership Agreement as this allows SK Recycles to ensure a level playing field for all members. This means that the MA cannot be customized or edited for any member.
The first step in the registration process with SK Recycles begins on the WeRecycle Portal. Once you have registered on the Portal, the second step in the registration process is to download, complete and submit a Membership Agreement. Please note, due to the Saskatchewan program transition, this membership agreement is being updated and a revised version will be made available to producers in mid-December 2024. If you have any questions please contact producer relations team at 1-877-667-2626 or via email at info@circularmaterials.ca.
